TRUETAP FOR HYLA

KNOW WHAT YOUR PHONE IS WORTH?
Truetap makes it easy to discover the current value of your phone. What’s yours worth? Get an accurate estimate. Then view available offers from vendors and choose your best option.

Hyla recycles phones by offering to buy back used phones from North American consumers, cleans, fixes and updates them and redistributes these used iPhones and Android phones to Africa and Asia.

We created a diagnostic app for iOS and Android, that allowed users to answer a handful of questions to gather their phone’s buy back value. Users have to follow directions, allowing the app to diagnose the phone’s software, while uses answer questions about the physical hardware.

We optimized the set of question based on the top 50 devices in 2015. Hyla engineers created a screen test to determine if any pixels were damaged. We divided the phone’s screen into a grid, allowing the user to tap on a specific area to track screen damage.

At the end of the diagnosis, TrueTap suggests the buy back value and directs users which provider or store offers the best price.

I created a clean and straightforward interface, focusing on clear visual and written instructions. We expected most people won’t know technical language or how to check if the bluetooth works.

In the upper right hand area I indicated the user’s progress, updating at each step. We also allowed users to skip steps, clearly communicating that skipping a step will decrease the value of the device.

I created icons and illustrations to help visually indicate which part of the device is being tested.

Review from the app store

Well executed app! It quickly runs a diagnostic and then shows what each of the top buyers are paying for that phone given its condition. It then connects you to those companies should you choose to trade it in. Glad this can now be done directly from the device. Very useful. – BirdmanIV
